You qualify for the public holiday entitlement as long as you work all of your regularly scheduled shifts both before and after the public holiday. In cases where these hours are not worked due to illness or other reasonable cause, a medical note or other documentation will be requested from Management in order for an employee to be paid for the time. If any of these Public Holiday days should happen to fall on a weekend, the holiday will be observed on either the previous Friday or the following Monday, at the discretion of the company. If a public holiday happens to fall during your vacation, that day is not counted as part of your vacation time.
You may be asked to work on a public holiday but have the right to refuse. If you agree in writing to work on the public holiday, you can either:
receive regular wages for the day plus a substitute day off with holiday pay; or
if the Company agrees, receive public holiday pay for the day plus premium pay for hours worked on that day. (Premium pay is regular pay times 1.5).
If you receive premium pay for working on a public holiday, the hours worked are not taken into consideration in calculating overtime pay. However, if you agree to work on a public holiday, but do not show up for work, you may lose your right to a paid public holiday or a substitute holiday unless the absence is non-culpable.
Vacation
The primary reason for vacation is to provide employees with paid time off for mental health and physical rest, recreation and rejuvenation away from the workplace.
All employees shall earn vacation time and pay entitlement commencing on their first day of employment, on the following basis:
Completed Years of Employment Weeks of Vacation Time Vacation Pay as a Percentage of Wages
0-1 Prorated per start date 4%
2-5 2 weeks 4%
6-10 3 weeks 6%
11+ 4 weeks 8%
Vacation entitlements are based on calendar year of employment. Employees will be entitled to vacation on a prorated basis during their first calendar year of employment. Employees are permitted to take vacation days once they have successfully completed their probationary period.
Upon completing five (5) years of employment with Stone Tile, employees will be entitled to an additional week of vacation (three (3) total weeks of vacation) on January 1st of the following calendar year. After ten (10) years of service, employees will be entitled to a further additional week of vacation (four (4) total weeks of vacation) on January 1st of the following calendar year.
All vacation time must be taken in the year for which it is granted. Unless otherwise required by applicable employment standards legislation, unused vacation cannot be carried over from one calendar year to the next. Employees will not receive pay in lieu of unused vacation time.
If a public holiday happens to fall during your vacation, that day is not counted as part of the vacation time.
Vacation Requests
All vacation requests are to be submitted in writing, to your Manager, at least six (6) weeks in advance of the desired dates. All requests for vacation time will be reviewed and approved (rejected) on a first-come, first-serve basis. Employees’ written requests will be processed within five (5) business days of receipt.
Stone Tile reserves the right, based on business activities, to limit the number of employees taking vacation at the same time. While all requests for vacation time will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis, Stone Tile the following restrictions will generally apply:
Employees may only take ten (10) consecutive days of vacation at one time.
Vacation approval and the quantity of people off in a given department, at a given time, will be subject to the approval of the Manager to ensure that appropriate staffing levels are maintained for business operations.
Black Out dates may exists and/or vary by department. We encourage you to check with your Manager or Human Resources in advance.

Assembly
Assembly is Stone Tile’s employee recognition & appreciation platform that gives both employees and managers the opportunity to throw a spotlight on team members who are committed to the organization’s goals and epitomize the core values of Stone Tile.
At the commencement of an employee’s employment with Stone Tile, they are added to the Assembly platform with an “observer – unable to give or receive recognition” status for the first 90days which serves as their probationary period. After the successful completion of their probationary period, the employee’s status will be changed to “Normal – can give and receive recognition”. Employees who have the “Normal” status receive 100 Tile Coins each month which they can give out to other team members in appreciation/recognition. If the 100 Tile Coins are unused for the month for which it was given, it will not roll over to the following month.
Any employee who receives appreciation/recognition coins accumulates those coins in their Earned Coin Bank until they have sufficient amount of coins to claim a reward. The rewards that can be claimed range between gift cards, charity donations and culture rewards. The minimum number of coins needed to claim a reward is 38coins.
